Documents do not replace design<\/h2>\n

A technical data sheet summarises information chosen by a supplier. A Declaration of Performance follows a regulatory framework for a defined product and intended use. CE marking indicates that required information has been declared; it is not a universal quality label.<\/p>\n

The designer must still decide whether the declared properties suit the actual format, exposure, fixing, support and local regulations.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Identify the exact product<\/h2>\n

Check commercial and geological identification, quarry, product type, thickness range, finish, intended use, manufacturer and document date. A test on one material or direction may not represent every later batch.<\/p>\n

For anisotropic stone, specimen orientation can materially affect the result. Confirm whether tests correspond to the real cutting and loading direction.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Common performance properties<\/h2>\n

Relevant data may include apparent density, water absorption, flexural strength, breaking load, abrasion, slip resistance, frost resistance, thermal behaviour and reaction to fire. Not every property is required for every use.<\/p>\n

Select evidence by risk. A fa\u00e7ade panel, stair tread, worktop and interior wall lining ask different questions.<\/p>\n

Standards and project country<\/h2>\n

Standards, harmonised requirements and national rules change over time. Verify the current edition and whether the product, test method and construction fall within its scope.<\/p>\n

An international client may be building in France or elsewhere. The applicable law and technical framework follow the project location, not the client\u2019s nationality.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Build an auditable specification<\/h2>\n

Record the accepted stone, finish, format, relevant declared values, required tests, sampling basis and responsibilities for validation. Avoid copying every value from a brochure into the specification.<\/p>\n

Combine documents with representative samples, shop drawings, installation method, prototype and inspection. Performance belongs to the complete system, not the stone name alone.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
