Onyx, selected quartzites and other translucent natural stones can create exceptional walls, counters, bars, furniture and decorative features when the stone, lighting system and fabrication are considered together from the outset.
How does stone backlighting work?
For even, high-quality illumination, the light source is positioned behind the selected translucent stone. The specification must consider the stone’s translucency, colour variation, thickness, reinforcement, panel size, joint positions, access for maintenance and the distance between the stone and the light source.
Technical details
The lighting system can be designed for warm, neutral, cool or coloured light, with dimming where appropriate. Electrical design, heat management, ventilation, power supplies and maintenance access must be validated with the appointed qualified lighting and electrical professionals.
