Design complete natural-stone systems for pools, spas, hammams and wet rooms by coordinating waterproofing, drainage, steam, heat, slip resistance, adhesives and maintenance.
Stone is not the waterproofing
Pools and wet rooms require a continuous waterproof structure or membrane, sealed penetrations, compatible drains and tested interfaces. Stone and grout are finishes within that system.
Define whether surfaces are submerged, splashed, steam-exposed or only intermittently wet, because each zone has different demands.
Choosing stone and finish
Consider absorption, mineral sensitivity, dimensional stability, frost where relevant and response to water chemistry. Light translucent stone may show adhesive ribs or moisture darkening.
Finish must balance wet slip resistance, barefoot comfort and cleaning. Approve a wet sample rather than relying on a dry catalogue image.
Hammams and thermal cycling
Steam rooms combine heat, vapour pressure, condensation and frequent cleaning. Substrate, insulation, vapour management, membrane, adhesive and stone must form one compatible system.
Movement at corners, benches, ceilings and service penetrations needs deliberate joints. Avoid rigidly locking different materials together.

Adhesives, grout and metals
Select setting materials for immersion, heat, chemistry and the exact stone. Backing mesh or resin can affect adhesion and should be checked before installation.
Use appropriate corrosion-resistant metals and prevent water from accumulating in fixing holes. Grout colour and width influence both appearance and maintenance.
Commissioning and maintenance
Respect curing periods before filling or heating. Commission systems gradually and record water balance, temperature and initial condition.
Provide an operating guide covering permitted cleaners, water treatment, drainage and joint inspection. Early response to leaks or deposits protects the complete assembly.
