Black Angola Granite: origin and appearance

Black Angola Granite, also known internationally as Angola Black Granite, Nero Angola, Black Angola and Angola Labrador, is a natural granite quarried in Angola, particularly around Lubango, formerly Sá da Bandeira. It is characterised by a deep black background, an even texture and subtle black-to-brown tonal shifts depending on the lot.

Its appearance is more mineral and uniform than that of heavily flecked black granites. Polishing adds depth and elegance; honed, brushed or leathered finishes produce a quieter, more contemporary surface with a tactile architectural character.

Black Angola is specified where a durable, dense and technically reliable dark surface is required: worktops, islands, bars, staircases, floors, walls, window sills, pool copings, fountains, memorials and exterior cladding. As with every natural stone, the actual lot should be reviewed to confirm grain, depth of black, brown reflections and surface consistency.

Material positioning

Black Angola is a premium black granite, well suited to schemes requiring a dark, durable and understated surface compared with Black Galaxy Granite. It may also be compared with Shanxi Black Granite, although the visual character varies by lot and finish.
