Stone Installer Training Level 2: Independent Site Work
Develop the competence to organise and execute standard natural-stone work independently, from substrate acceptance and layouts to wet areas, troubleshooting and handover.
Plan the work area
Review approved drawings, materials, access, storage, sequence and interfaces. Confirm that preceding trades have completed substrates and waterproofing to the required condition.
Organise tools, cutting zones, dust controls and protection before delivery.
Accept and prepare substrates
Measure flatness, levels and residual moisture with the specified method. Map cracks and joints and verify repairs.
Select compatible primers, levelling and setting materials within the approved system.
Execute layouts and details
Set out rooms, thresholds, stairs and wall returns so joints align with architecture and movement. Coordinate cut-outs and edge profiles with drawings.
Maintain full support, consistent joints and clean workmanship.

Troubleshoot without improvising
Identify causes of poor adhesion, excessive lippage, rapid skinning, staining or inconsistent joints. Stop when conditions exceed product or project limits.
Do not solve programme pressure by changing water ratios, mixing systems or covering moisture.
Lead communication and handover
Coordinate with supervisor, designer and other trades using photographs and measurements. Explain natural variation without dismissing workmanship issues.
Protect completed work, close snags and deliver cleaning and maintenance guidance.
