Natural-Stone Standards and Project Specifications
Turn design intent into a clear natural-stone specification covering material, finish, dimensions, performance, installation, tolerances, samples and acceptance.
Standards answer defined questions
Product, test, design and execution standards each have a scope. Citing a number without identifying the product, use and current edition does not create a complete requirement.
The project country determines the applicable legal and technical framework. Verify national annexes and local rules.
Identify the material precisely
State commercial name, geological family, quarry or source where required, finish, cutting orientation, approved range and current batch process.
Avoid promising natural stone as an exact uniform colour. Define acceptable variation with representative samples and slab photographs.
Specify what affects performance
Connect relevant tests to the actual element: floor, tread, façade panel, worktop or exterior paving. Include thickness, format, support, fixing and exposure.
Do not copy irrelevant brochure values or substitute one test method for another.

Responsibilities and submittals
State who designs fixings, validates calculations, surveys, approves layouts and inspects work. Require shop drawings, samples, data, method statements and prototypes at useful dates.
Approval of appearance should not be mistaken for structural or regulatory validation.
Acceptance and maintenance
Define inspection conditions, lighting, viewing distance, dry state and treatment of natural features. Establish a process for non-conforming work.
Require cleaning, care and maintenance information with spare pieces and traceability records at handover.
