Surfaces should be stable, non-slippery and free from excessive gaps or level changes. Thresholds, mats, drains and covers must not trap wheels or walking aids.

Consistent stair geometry, handrails, visual contrast, warning surfaces and suitable nosings support safe use. Stone profiles must retain adequate strength.
Ramps need controlled gradient, landings and wet slip performance.

Visual and tactile contrast
Test contrast under actual lighting and both dry and wet appearance. Highly patterned stone can make edges or wayfinding difficult to perceive.

Coordinate accessibility consultant, architect, stone supplier and installer. Inspect finished geometry rather than relying only on drawings.
