France and EU: Stone Product Standards, CE Marking, DoP and the New CPR
Understand how harmonised product standards, CE marking, Declarations of Performance and the EU Construction Products Regulation relate to natural stone supplied for projects in France and Europe.
CE marking is not a premium-quality badge
Where a harmonised standard applies, CE marking communicates declared performance through a defined regulatory route. It does not mean every product is suitable for every project.
The designer still matches declared properties to use, format, support and exposure.
Identify product and intended use
Slabs, tiles, modular units, cladding and paving may follow different product standards. Check manufacturer, stone, dimensions, finish, declared use and document date.
A quarry test on raw rock is not automatically the declaration for every finished product.
Declaration of Performance
The DoP identifies the product and declares relevant essential characteristics under the applicable specification. Values may be measured, classified or stated according to the regulatory route.
Read units, test direction, declared ranges and no-performance-determined entries carefully.

The evolving EU CPR framework
The EU Construction Products Regulation is evolving, including digital information and environmental-performance requirements. Transition dates and product coverage must be checked from current official sources.
Do not rely on an old template or assume identical requirements in non-EU markets.
International procurement
For a project in France or the EU, confirm importer, manufacturer and documentation responsibilities before shipment. Retain traceability between declarations, batches and delivered pieces.
