Renovation begins with diagnosis
Identify stone, finish, installation, treatments and damage before choosing machinery or chemicals. Dullness may be wear, residue, acid etching, moisture or uneven previous polishing.
Record cracks, movement, lippage, stains and repairs so cosmetic work does not hide structural or moisture problems.
Trials define the achievable result
Use a representative test area to compare cleaning, stain treatment, repair colour and finish. Inspect fully dry under relevant light.
Agree whether the goal is conservation of patina, uniform refinement or a new finish. Perfect new-build uniformity may be neither possible nor desirable.
Cleaning, stain removal and repairs
Start with compatible cleaning and targeted poultices where appropriate. Acid damage cannot be washed away; the surface itself must be refinished.
Repair chips, cracks and open joints after understanding movement. Match repair material for colour, texture and mechanical behaviour.

Grinding, honing and polishing
Progressive abrasives remove a controlled surface layer and refine it to the selected sheen. Excessive grinding can expose fillers, reduce thickness or alter historic details.
Edge zones, thresholds and repairs need hand attention to avoid visible halos.
Handover and care
Inspect the dry surface from agreed distances and lighting. Record retained stains, veins, patches and limitations.
Provide a simple maintenance plan and approved cleaners. Mats, spill response and correct routine cleaning protect the renovated finish.
