Stone Installer Training Level 3: Managing Complex Projects
Lead complex natural-stone projects through technical review, prototypes, logistics, specialist details, team coordination, quality records and risk management.
Review technical risk before mobilisation
Analyse stone, formats, fixings, substrate, moisture, tolerances, programme and interfaces. Identify decisions requiring engineer, architect, supplier or laboratory input.
Create hold points for approvals and concealed work.
Prototype critical details
Build mock-ups for façades, stairs, wet areas, book-matched walls, large panels and unusual finishes. Test handling, assembly, joints and cleaning.
Record approved outcomes and incorporate them into method statements and training.
Coordinate people and information
Align drawings, slab layouts, piece schedules, deliveries, lifting and installation sequence. Project brief teams on hazards, quality criteria and escalation routes.
Manage revisions so workshop and site use the same information.

Manage defects and change
Investigate cause before repair. Separate natural features, fabrication damage, installation error and design movement.
Agree corrective work, prototype it when necessary and document acceptance.
Deliver a traceable project
Keep substrate records, batch approvals, test results, photographs, anchor checks and product information. Traceability protects safety and future maintenance.
Advanced competence includes knowing when specialist engineering or conservation authority is required.
