Blue Macaubas Quartzite: origin and appearance
Blue Macaubas, also marketed as Blue Aria, is a Brazilian quartzite formed from tightly bonded quartz crystals. Its unusually vivid blue palette makes it one of the most recognisable decorative stones.
This Precambrian stone comes from Brazil, as does Azul Bahia Granite. It is especially valued in contemporary bathrooms and statement interiors.
The quarry area is in the state of Bahia, in the wider Salvador region of Brazil.
Characteristics and applications of Blue Macaubas Quartzite
Blue Macaubas is valued for its excellent strength and durability, qualities associated with its dense quartzite structure.
Unlike Azul Bahia Granite, Blue Macaubas generally shows linear movement and a broad range of tones, from deep blue to pale sky blue and near-white. Every slab has its own rhythm and colour intensity.
Blue Macaubas brings colour and luminosity to premium schemes. Its strength allows use for floors, book-matched walls, shower cladding, tables, counters, bars, kitchen worktops and other bespoke architectural elements.
Polished and honed finishes are most often specified: polishing intensifies the blues and crystalline depth, while honing produces a quieter, more contemporary surface.
