Lemurian Blue Granite from Madagascar
Lemurian Blue Granite: origin and appearance
Lemurian Blue Granite comes from Madagascar, from the wider Ihosy quarrying area in the south-central part of the island.
It is an exceptional decorative stone, highly sought after for its intense blue iridescent reflections.
Its dark green-black ground is associated with anorthosite, while labradorescent feldspar crystals produce blue flashes that shift with the viewing angle. Black mineral clusters add further depth and variation from slab to slab.
It is one of Madagascar’s best-known decorative stones and is specified internationally for distinctive luxury projects.
Characteristics and applications of Lemurian Blue Granite
Lemurian Blue is particularly effective in decorative schemes, book-matched panels and feature walls, while its strength also supports flooring and other architectural applications.
The blue feldspar flashes shift as the viewer moves, giving the surface a dynamic, almost luminous quality.
This dense, resistant stone can be specified indoors or outdoors when the selected lot, finish, thickness and climate are technically validated. Polished, honed, aged, flamed, bush-hammered and sandblasted finishes are available.
In interior architecture, slab orientation and lighting should be designed to reveal the strongest blue reflections.
Commercial names include Madagascar Blue Granite, Lemurian Labradorite and Labradorite Blue.
Marbre Import offers slabs and blocks direct from the producer, with visual lot selection and book-matched layout support.
