Grigio Carnico marble: origin and appearance
Grigio Carnico, also known as Grey Carnico or Gris Carnico, is an Italian marble from the Paluzza and Timau area in the province of Udine, Friuli Venezia Giulia. Its grey to dark grey background is crossed by white and silver veins. Colour intensity and patterns vary naturally between slabs.
For contemporary interiors, we suggest using the veining as the starting point of the design: position cuts around a distinctive feature, align adjacent pieces or reserve a large surface for a decorative panel. Grey tones pair naturally with wood, pale walls and metal details.
Bespoke projects in grey marble
A tabletop, fireplace or vanity requires a different approach from a floor. We help you compare slabs and choose which areas to retain for each piece. When several elements need to match, consider the entire lot and the cutting sequence.

Specification advice
Choosing Grigio Carnico for your project
Before confirming the material, compare a full slab photograph with a close-up. The full view helps plan large pieces; the detail reveals colour nuances. Approve a cutting layout showing the vein direction and adjacent pieces.
For architects
Plan vein direction, alignment, joints and lighting from the initial design stage.
For stone fabricators and contractors
Confirm thicknesses, cut-outs, any reinforcement and the installation system for the selected lot.
For homeowners
Select the actual slab and finish with everyday use and maintenance in mind.
Caring for Grigio Carnico marble
Use a gentle pH-neutral cleaner and wipe up spills promptly. Avoid acidic products, limescale removers and abrasive cleaners. A protective treatment can be assessed for the intended use; it does not replace daily care or protect against acid etching.
Are Gris Carnico and Grigio Carnico the same stone?
These names refer to the same commercial stone: Gris Carnico is the French name and Grigio Carnico the Italian name. The actual lot determines the final appearance.
Can it be used for a kitchen worktop?
Consider contact with acidic foods, staining risks and the patina you are willing to accept. We assess finishes, protection and maintenance requirements with you before confirming the material.
How can I obtain a quotation?
Send dimensions, quantities, the required thickness and finish, and the delivery location. A drawing helps specify cuts, edges and openings for an accurate quotation.
