Coloured Onyx
Coloured Onyx: origin and appearance
When a design calls for colours rarely found in natural onyx, selected White Onyx can be custom-tinted in pink, blue or violet.
Traditional coloured-onyx treatments relied mainly on painting the rear of the slab so that the chosen colour appeared through the translucent stone.
Marbre Import developed a more refined process in which the resin used during face polishing and rear mesh reinforcement is tinted. This produces a deeper, more consistent colour while retaining the movement of the natural material.
The result is more natural and visually consistent, particularly when the slab is combined with carefully engineered backlighting.
Characteristics and applications of Coloured Onyx
Tinting White Onyx does not alter the base stone’s essential technical properties or applications. It is a decorative treatment selected to meet a client’s, architect’s or interior designer’s colour brief.
Coloured Onyx is specified in the same way as naturally coloured onyx, but it is especially effective for feature walls, bars and decorative panels with backlighting, which reveals its depth and crystalline character.
Where the project requires changing atmospheres, the perceived colour can also be adjusted through the LED panel used for backlighting.
Compatible LED systems can be controlled through a smartphone application to explore a broad spectrum of colours and lighting scenes.

Specification guidance
Specifying Coloured Onyx for a premium project
Coloured Onyx is intended for signature interiors where stone becomes a defining architectural feature: illuminated panels, bars, counters, feature walls, hotels, boutiques, villas and bespoke residential schemes.
For architects and designers
Assessment of the veining, large-format appearance, layout coherence, installation constraints and expected maintenance level.
For stone contractors and project teams
Approval of the lot, thicknesses, finishes, fabrication, transport and technical feasibility before ordering.
For discerning private clients
Comparison with similar stones, colour selection, maintenance guidance and support through to a tailored quotation.
How should the actual stone lot be approved?
Approval should consider the available lot, colour, veining, format, finish, thickness and intended application. Marbre Import can support selection with slab photographs, samples and technical data.
Can this stone be used in kitchens and bathrooms?
Suitability depends on the stone, finish, treatment, expected maintenance and exposure to staining or acidic products. Technical guidance is recommended before ordering.
Why is pricing provided on request?
Pricing varies with the lot, origin, availability, thickness, finish, quantities, fabrication and transport. A tailored quotation reflects the actual project rather than a theoretical list price.
