Digital Stone Fabrication: CNC, Waterjet, Engraving and Quality Control
Coordinate survey data, digital models, CNC machining, waterjet cutting, engraving and workshop inspection to produce accurate natural-stone components.
The digital chain
A reliable workflow connects survey, design model, stone layout, fabrication drawing, machine file, piece number and installation position. Precision is lost when each stage uses a different origin or version.
The model must describe buildable geometry, including joints, tolerances, tool access, supports and assembly sequence.
CNC machining
Bridge saws and machining centres cut, drill, mill, profile and polish repeated geometry. Tool choice, feed, water, support and machining sequence must suit the stone.
Complex toolpaths cannot make an unstable vein or narrow bridge safe. Material judgement remains essential.
Waterjet and engraving
Waterjet is well suited to curves, inlays and internal shapes with limited thermal effect. Kerf width, taper, pierce points and fragile offcuts must be anticipated.
Engraving may use rotary tools, sandblasting, laser or waterjet depending on stone and desired depth. Approve lettering and contrast on a real sample.

Workshop quality control
Inspect the first-off piece before repetition. Check dimensions, flatness, hole positions, edge profile, finish and fit with templates or adjoining components.
Photograph visible faces and retain a digital link to slab numbers and approved layouts. Calibration and tool wear should be recorded.
From workshop to site
Dry-assemble complex work where possible and plan lifting points before fabrication. Packing must protect fragile edges and present pieces in the installation sequence.
Site feedback should return to the digital record. As-built changes, replacement pieces and final drawings preserve traceability for maintenance.
