African Red Granite
African Red Granite: origin and appearance
African Red Granite is quarried in South Africa, in the Waterberg district north of Pretoria.
It is one of the most intensely red granites on the market. The density of black and grey mineral grains varies by block, subtly changing the overall depth of colour.
Its red-and-black mineral structure creates a generally uniform deep red appearance. Marbre Import selects material from the same block, or from a closely matched quarry area, to maintain coherence across the project.
Like most granites, it is composed principally of quartz and feldspar, including plagioclase and alkali feldspars.
Its strong colour and durability make it suitable for demanding residential, hospitality and public-space projects worldwide.
Characteristics and applications of African Red Granite
African Red Granite is suitable for floors, wall cladding, stairs, worktops, counters, thresholds and bespoke architectural elements.
Its dense structure and low maintenance requirements make it especially relevant for high-traffic interiors and robust exterior applications.
The interplay of red feldspar with black and grey minerals creates a consistent graphic texture that reads well across large surfaces.
As a hard, frost-resistant granite, it can be specified indoors or outdoors when the selected finish, thickness and local climate are technically validated. Polished, honed, flamed, bush-hammered and sandblasted finishes are available.
Polishing deepens the red and black tones, while textured finishes provide a more understated appearance and improved slip resistance for selected uses.
Lot approval should focus on colour consistency, grain density and the relationship between adjacent slabs or tiles.
Marbre Import offers slabs and blocks direct from the producer, together with selection, fabrication and layout support.

Specification guidance
Specifying African Red Granite for a premium project
African Red Granite is a durable, stable material for projects requiring strong colour and reliable performance: worktops, stairs, floors, thresholds, walls, exterior elements and heavily used surfaces.
For architects and designers
Assessment of the veining, large-format appearance, layout coherence, installation constraints and expected maintenance level.
For stone contractors and project teams
Approval of the lot, thicknesses, finishes, fabrication, transport and technical feasibility before ordering.
For discerning private clients
Comparison with similar stones, colour selection, maintenance guidance and support through to a tailored quotation.
How should the actual stone lot be approved?
Approval should consider the available lot, colour, veining, format, finish, thickness and intended application. Marbre Import can support selection with slab photographs, samples and technical data.
Can this stone be used in kitchens and bathrooms?
Suitability depends on the stone, finish, treatment, expected maintenance and exposure to staining or acidic products. Technical guidance is recommended before ordering.
Why is pricing provided on request?
Pricing varies with the lot, origin, availability, thickness, finish, quantities, fabrication and transport. A tailored quotation reflects the actual project rather than a theoretical list price.
