Calacatta Marble: origin and appearance
Calacatta is a prestigious white marble quarried in the Carrara mountains of Tuscany, Italy, from Jurassic geological formations.
Its ground is bright white, comparable with Statuario Carrara Marble. Veining ranges from grey to warm gold in Calacatta Oro selections, creating a lively and highly architectural surface.
The contrast between the luminous white background and concentrated, irregular veins creates depth and a timeless architectural character.
Slabs are often selected for book-matched compositions, allowing the veining to be mirrored across feature walls and large surfaces.
Broad white areas provide the luminosity associated with the finest Italian white marbles and with Carrara’s historic stoneworking tradition.
Compared with Statuario Carrara Marble, Calacatta typically displays broader, thicker and more concentrated grey or gold veining.
