Natural-Stone Finishes, Touch and Slip Resistance
Choose polished, honed and textured stone finishes by balancing appearance, tactile comfort, wet slip resistance, cleaning and long-term wear.
Finish changes the same stone
Grinding, honing and polishing alter reflection, colour depth and pore exposure. Brushing, sandblasting, flaming and impact textures change relief, grip and cleaning behaviour.
Finish names are not perfectly standardised between workshops. Approve a physical sample from the actual stone.
Touch and barefoot comfort
A surface can be safe yet unpleasant under bare feet. Sharp relief retains dirt and may be unsuitable for bathrooms, spas or pool surrounds.
Consider skin contact, temperature sensation, footwear and expected contaminants.
Understanding slip resistance
Slip depends on surface, water, soap, oil, wear, slope and footwear. Laboratory results are meaningful only when the method and conditions resemble the use.
Do not compare values from different test methods as though they shared one scale.

Wear and maintenance
Traffic gradually changes texture and sheen. Entrances, turning points and stairs wear unevenly and may become more slippery or visually polished.
Specify cleaning that does not leave films. Plan mats, periodic deep cleaning and retexturing where appropriate.
Approval in real conditions
Review dry and wet samples under project lighting. For critical areas, construct a representative mock-up with slope, joints and cleaning regime.
Record the approved finish, workshop process and reference sample so replacements remain consistent.
