Blue Bahia Granite

Origin and appearance of Blue Bahia Granite

Blue Bahia is internationally traded as a granite, particularly in North American, European and Asian markets.

Geologically, it is a sodalite-rich sodalite foidolite formed during the Precambrian, giving the stone an exceptionally ancient mineral origin.

Its intense blue colour comes primarily from sodalite, a mineral within the silicate family. Its mineral composition includes microcline, sodalite, cancrinite, plagioclase and aegirine.microcline, 30 % de sodalite, 10% de cancrinite, 5% de plagioclase, 2% d’aegirine et 2% de mafite.

This rare blue stone is quarried in eastern Brazil near Salvador, Bahia, and is prized for its exceptional colour.

Characteristics and uses of Blue Bahia Granite

Blue Bahia is primarily specified as a statement decorative stone by architects and interior designers.

Although structurally robust, its sodalite content can react to acidic substances and certain chemicals. Appropriate sealing, installation products and maintenance guidance are therefore essential.

Few natural stones offer such a saturated blue palette, making Blue Bahia an exceptional choice for bars, feature walls, counters and bespoke luxury interiors.

It is also marketed under names including Azul Bahia, Azul de Bahia, Bahia Blue and Bahia Granite.
