Ceppo di Gré
Ceppo di Gré: origin and appearance
Ceppo di Gré is a grey Italian natural conglomerate. It is formed from rounded fragments of different rocks bound together by a strong natural matrix, creating its characteristic aggregate-like appearance.
The clearly visible stone fragments vary in scale and tone, giving each slab a distinctive architectural texture.
The quarry area is in the province of Brescia, Lombardy, between Milan and Verona.
Commercial names include Ceppo di Gre Conglomerate, Ceppo del Lago, Ceppo di Iseo, Ceppo Grigio and Pietra Pianico Conglomerate.
Characteristics and applications of Ceppo di Gré
Its defining quality is the interplay of grey fragments within a lighter natural matrix, producing a textured yet restrained contemporary surface.
No two slabs are identical, so visual approval of the selected lot is recommended for projects requiring tonal continuity.
Ceppo di Gré is suitable for interior floors, wall cladding, stairs and other architectural surfaces.
With the correct finish and technical specification, it may also be used outdoors for terraces, tiles and pavers.
Available finishes include sawn, polished, honed, sandblasted and bush-hammered, selected according to the application and slip-resistance requirements.
It can also be fabricated for shower trays, basins, bespoke elements and exterior landscaping blocks.
Exterior and freeze-thaw suitability must be confirmed for the selected lot, finish, thickness and local climate before specification.
